Karen Wong
Karen (flute/piccolo) is a Britten-Pears Young Artist 2024/25. She was a member of Sinfonia Smith Square 23/24 and has recently worked with the London Symphony Orchestra, The Hallé, Northern Ballet Sinfonia, Scottish Ballet Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and Taipei Music Academy and Festival Orchestra. She won the British Flute Society Young Artist Competition in 2022 and the 2nd Prize in the Tampere Flute Fest Piccolo Competition (Finland). Her recent concerto engagements include performances with the Another Chamber Orchestra (UK), Klangkollektiv Wien (Austira), at the Anghiari Festival (Italy), London Handel Festival, and the Bach for Good Festival (UK). Her solo career has brought her around the UK and Hong Kong, and to the US, Belgium, and Germany. She graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a distinction in both her Artist Diploma and her Master of Performance in Orchestral Artistry.
Karen and Lance's enthusiasm in (re)discovering unknown works and under-represented composers both of our time and in the classical canon has forged a dynamic duo that has brought imaginative programmes of diverse styles around the UK and to Hong Kong. They met at the Chinese University of Hong Kong as undergraduates and have been closely working together since respectively completing their postgraduate studies in London. They founded the wind-and-piano Ensemble Fioritura in 2022.
