About
Lance is a Hong Kong-born classical pianist and composer based in London. His versatile concert career has taken him around the world — from the UK and Hong Kong to the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, Korea, Taiwan, Macau, and the US — and his performances have been featured on Radio Television Hong Kong, Television Broadcast Ltd. (Hong Kong), Bloomsbury Radio (UK), and in film. He performs a wide repertoire and is particularly committed to promoting underrepresented works and contemporary music, which led him to establish his ensemble, Resonance Frontier, in 2025.
His compositions have recently been performed at venues and festivals including Smith Square Hall (London), Conway Hall (London), O. Festival (Rotterdam), the 20th World Saxophone Congress (Harbin), the French May Arts Festival (Hong Kong), and on Radio Television Hong Kong. He has received commissions from individual performers, ensembles, and orchestras across continents, and his recent competition successes include Third Prize at The Clements Prize 2025. He has also been awarded funding from the National Lottery Project Grants for his creative work. His key sources of inspiration include queerness, diaspora experiences, literature, Buddhist philosophy, and Cantonese text-setting.
To give back to society, Lance became an ABRSM examiner in 2023. He also regularly performs for various charities, bringing live music directly into the community.
Lance earned his master’s in Piano Performance from the Royal College of Music in 2018. Upon graduating with First Class Honours from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2016, he received a full tuition scholarship for his postgraduate studies through the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Schools of Music in 2017.
